PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make reliability high in a liquid crystal projector provided with a projection type liquid crystal display device where a lamp unit can be attached to/detached from an optical unit. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal projector is equipped with the projection type liquid crystal display device 3 constituted of the optical unit 12 in which a liquid crystal panel is incorporated and the lamp unit 14 which is attached to the unit 12 and where a lamp 13 being a light source is arranged to condense light on a specified position in the optical unit, and constituted by providing means 22, 23 and 25 for positioning the lamp 13 in the optical unit 12 in the lamp unit 14. The picture of the device 3 is projected to a screen.
