PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet printer equipped with a service station controlled in its operation by the parameter stored in the memory region incorporated in a consumable part. SOLUTION: An ink jet printing system includes a replaceable cartridge equipped with a replaceable printing head having a large number of nozzles for discharging small ink droplets, a service station capping and wiping a large number of the nozzles and a cartridge memory for housing an ink supply part and recording service station control data. A processor is connected to an ink cartridge memory and imparts a service station control value in response to the service station control data read from the cartridge memory.
