Disclosed is an ink composition which comprises water, a colorant, and a monomeric oxazolidinone compound. In one embodiment, the oxazolidinone compound is of the formula <IMAGE> wherein R1 is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, or a substituted alkyl group, and R2, R3, R4, and R5 each, independently of the others, are hydrogen atoms, alkyl groups, substituted alkyl groups, or alkoxy groups. Also disclosed are ink jet printing processes using the aforementioned ink.
