摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an extensible shape information encoding/decoding device which uses the scan interleave method to improve the encoding/decoding efficiency by applying the different retrieval sequences between the vertical and horizontal retrieval operations when an image is encoded into an enhancement layer from a base layer. SOLUTION: A 1st switching means 63 outputs the shape information outputted from a shape information extraction means 60 and the base layer data outputted from a base layer extraction means 61 to a 1st or 2nd direction retrieval means 64 or 65 based on the switching control signal that is outputted from a retrieval sequence decision means 62. Receiving the shape information and the layer data, the means 64 executes a horizontal retrieval operation and then the vertical one. Meanwhile, the means 65 executes a vertical retrieval operation and then the horizontal one after receiving the shape information and the layer data. As a result, the total number of generated bits is decreased and the encoding efficiency is improved.
