PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a strong and large-sized refractory by composing the refractory in a roof part covering the upper part of a trough part in a forehearth having a cooling zone for cooling a molten glass of alumina and mullite in a specific proportion and providing a castable refractory using either one of an alumina cement and sodium aluminate as a hardener. SOLUTION: This forehearth has a cooling zone for cooling a molten glass and the cooling zone has a trough part, covered with a roof part formed of a refractory and used for conveying the molten glass. Refractory raw materials for the roof part are composed of >=60 wt.% alumina and mullite and the refractory is a strong and large sized one using an alumina cement and sodium aluminate as a hardener therefor. Joints in the roof part are reduced by the structure to provide a high-quality glass. The main constituent raw material of the refractory in the roof part may be composed of <=25 wt.% zirconia in addition to the alumina and mullite. |
