SHAFT POSITION INDICATOR FOR A ROTARY OR LINEAR SWITCH MECHANISM

An arrangement is provided which is associated with a shaft of a device for indicating an operative or an inoperative state for the device. The arrangement includes a switch mechanism including a unitary enclosure having a cavity and a magnetic proximity switch in the cavity for producing electrical signals upon actuation t hereof. A mounting assembly is provided for supporting the switch mechanism as a unit. A shaft position indicator and control structure is associated with the mounting assembl y and the switch mechanism and such structure includes magnetic elements. Structure is pro vided for coupling the shaft position indicator and control structure to the shaft of the device. The unitary enclosure of the switch mechanism substantially encloses the cavity and the proximity switch in the cavity. The mounting assembly includes structure for pos itioning the switch mechanism in the vicinity of the magnetic elements of the shaft posit ion indicator and control structure. The shaft position indicator and control struct ure further includes structure which is connected to the shaft coupling structure for rotati ng the magnetic elements of the shaft position indicator and control structure to cause the magnetic elements of the indicator and control structure to travel adjacent to t he magnetic proximity switch of the switch mechanism for actuation of the switch upon moveme nt of the shaft of the device during the operative state of the device.
