PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high-purity heat-resistant member excellent in dimensional stability even at high temperatures and high pressures, and usable in a continuous way. SOLUTION: This heat-resistant member consists of a silicon carbide sintered compact >=2.9 g/cm<3> in density which is obtained by sintering a mixture of silicon carbide powder and a non-metallic sintering auxiliary. Specifically, this member is produced by a production method including the following two consecutive processes: solidification process: a mixture of silicon carbide powder with a liquid silicon compound, a liquid organic compound forming carbon when heated, and a polymerization or crosslinking catalyst is solidified into a solid product, and sintering process: the solid product is heated and carbonized in a non-oxidative atmosphere and then sintered in a non-oxidative atmosphere. This heat-resistant member is applicable to e.g. molds for hot press, molds for continuously casting use, members for electric discharge machining use, members for nuclear reactors, rocket nozzles. |
