摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress generation of NOx and soot over the whole operating range. SOLUTION: In a compressive ignition type internal combustion engine, a first run of fuel injecting operation in an amount below 30% of the max. injecting amount is made in the injection timing region II to approx. 20 deg. from approx. 90 deg. before the compressive upper deadpoint, and thereby a condition is generated in which the injected fuel is not thermally cracked until the compressive upper deadpoint is attained and no combustion takes place but an oxidative reaction is progressing. At the compressive upper deadpoint approximately, the second run of fuel injection is made, and thereby combustion of the injected fuel is started.
