PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alginic acid gel water treatment agent for removing heavy metals. SOLUTION: A beads-shaped alginic acid gel water treatment agent for removing heavy metals is produced by dripping a 0.1-10 wt.% alginate soln. on a polyvalent cation soln. to crosslink alginic acid. An activated carbon- containing alginic acid gel (activated carbon-alginic acid gel) water treatment agent is produced by dripping a soln. mixed with 0.1-10 wt.% of alginate and 0.1-10 wt.% of powdery activated carbon on the polyvalent cation soln. to crosslink activated carbon-containing alginic acid and drying the obtained activated carbon-alginic acid gel. This alginic acid gel water treatment agent can be adapted to a batchwise or continuos waste water treatment process or a direct connection type water purifier.
