PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable radio equipment provided with a display function capable of reducing the storage capacity for error message information, thereby increasing the capacity assigned to other message information. SOLUTION: A radio section 2 receives and demodulates a modulated radio signal including a synchronizing signal, a call number signal and a message signal to produce a demodulated digital signal. A decoder 3 corrects an error in the demodulated digital signal and stores a message signal in a storage section 6 as message information when the decoder 3 detects its own call number signal from the demodulated digital signal whose error is corrected. The stored message information is displayed on a display section 9. The message signal has an information bit part that is part of the message information and a check bit part acting like an error correction function of the message bits as a message block. In the case that the message block has an error and the information bit part has an error, the decoder 3 allows a message conversion buffer 39 to convert the message information into a special character.
