PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a telephone communication equipment which can complete on-hook operation by placing a handset even in the telephone communication equipment in which a hook switch cannot be provided. SOLUTION: This telephone communication equipment main body 1 is provided with a network part 2 interfacing with a communication network 7, a detection part 3 composed of DSP and a tone detector and a control part 4. The detection part 3 for monitoring sound outputted from the handset 5 through the network part 2 and detecting specified sound is provided so as to detect on-hook and off-hook. The detection part 3 detects shock sound when the handset 5 is placed, to confirm on-hook state, for example. The control part 4 controls the network part 2 for the on-hook operation.
