PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an optical fiber type non-reflection terminal having a large reflection attenuation quantity and excellent characteristics by specifying a normal working coefft. indicating the ratio of the major axis diameter of a non-reflection treating part to the diameter of a bare optical fiber. SOLUTION: The optical fiber type non-reflection terminal is formed by heating and melting the part near the terminal of the bare optical fiber 20 and forming the non-reflection treating part 20b of a spherical surface shape at its terminal 20a by the surface tension of glass. The diameter D1 of the non-reflection treating part 20b in a direction orthogonal with the central axis of the bare optical fiber 20 is designated as a minor axis diameter and the diameter D of the non-reflection treating part 20b in a direction parallel with the central axis as the major axis diameter. The major axis diameter D is >=1.5 times the outside diameter D0 of the bare optical fiber 20. The reflection attenuation quantity increases greatly when the normal working coefft. (D/D0 ) attains >=1.5. If, however, the normal working coefft. is too large, space efficiency degrades and distortion arises at the neck on the bare optical fiber 20 side of the non-reflection treating part 20b and is liable to give rise to the rupture and, therefore, the normal working coefft. is substantially confined to <=8.0. |
