PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a composition excellent in skin care performances, etc., by formulating a cosmetic carrier withβ-1,3-scleroglucan having a specified molecular structure and a specified molecular weight. SOLUTION: This composition contains a cosmetically acceptable carrier (A) and 0.05-3.0 wt.%, based on the total weight of the composition,β-1,3- scleroglucan having a three-dimensionally crosslinked triply helical structure and an average molecular weight of 1×10<6> to 12×10<6> . This composition may be a shampoo and/or hair conditioner composition, a skin care composition, an anti-inflammatory skin care preparation, especially an after-sunburn skin care preparation, an oral cavity care preparation, a mucosa lubricating preparation, an ophthalmic preparation or the like. Theβ-1,3-scleroglucan can be obtained by culturing phytopathogenic incomplete bacteria Sclerotium rolfisii ATCC 15205 in a medium under micro-aerobic conditions. |
