Machine which has a head for joining two strands of a cord by means of a knot and which incorporates a needle 1 with a transverse hole 9 for the passage of the cord 7, a clamp 2 forming knots, which is able to rotate and has axial displacement, a foldable clamp 3 and a foldable arm 4 which position the two strands of the cord to be tied over the clamp 2, a vertical arm 5 which is provided with a lateral branch 51 and which alternately describes combined vertical and rotational movements in order to press the two strands of the loop (knot) on the axis of the clamp 2 and a cutting mechanism 6 which cuts the strand joining the knot to the reel supplying the cord. This machine is used to pass a cord through laminar elements and to join its strands by means of a knot. <IMAGE>
