PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable favorable use in a high-contrast low sensitivity photosensitive layer having low dependency on development by forming silver halide particles as specified flat platy particles. SOLUTION: In the silver halide photographic emulsion contg. silver halide particles and a dispersive medium, flat platy particles each having 0.10 to <0.35μm diameter equivalent to that of a circle and 0.005 to <0.025μm spacing of twin planes account for >=50% of the total projection area of the silver halide particles. Each of the flat platy particles has two or more parallel twin planes in the particle and the principal planes are parallel faces. The diameter equivalent to that of a circle is the diameter of a circle having the same area as each of the principal planes and it is measured by a known technique using an electron microscope. When each of the flat platy particles has two twin planes, the spacing of twin planes means the interval between the two twin planes. In the case of three or more twin planes, the spacing of twin planes means the longest one of the intervals.
