A resilient coupler 3 in a collapsed evacuated state is inserted into (or removed from) re-entrant chambers 11 provided in elements 1 and 2, and atmospheric or pressure air is supplied to the vacuum 22 in the coupler 3 to expand it into retaining engagement in the chambers 11. The couplers 3 are elongate and may engage in elongate chambers 11 in the edges of panel elements 1 and 2, and in addition in chambers 11 in corner connectors to form a container (Figure 3, not shown).
