PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the capacity of a battery without causing leakage after over-discharge by specifying the blend composition and filling ratio of a gel-like zinc negative electrode. SOLUTION: In this battery, the blend composition of a get-like zinc negative electrode is set to 20-25 pts.wt. of alkaline electrolyte to 100 pts.wt. of zinc alloy powder, and the filling ratio of the gel-like zinc negative electrode to the negative electrode capacity is set to 85-90%. The contact of the gel-like zinc negative electrode with a negative electrode collector or separator is optimized when the filling ratio is set within this range, and the discharge utilization factor can be kept satisfactorily. When the filling ratio is than 85%, the contact is deteriorated, reducing the discharge utilization factor, and when it exceeds 90%, a positive electrode catalyst is compressed in discharge to affect the discharge. Although the occurrence of leakage after over-discharge is more serious as the ratio of the alkaline electrolyte is higher with the same filling ratio, the possibility of leakage can be eliminated when the blend composition is set in the above range. |
