The X-ray image instrument includes an X-ray source (28) for generating X-ray radiation, and an X-ray imaging arrangement (38) for detecting X-ray radiation which has run through an object, and for outputting an image signal. A carrier arrangement (18) is provided for carrying the X-ray source and the X-ray imaging arrangement so they face each other over the object. A drive source (42) is provided for adjusting the carrier arrangement in a predetermined direction. An image sensitivity adjustment arrangement (56) adjusts the image recording sensitivity of the X-ray imaging arrangement, and a control arrangement (60) controls the image sensitivity adjustment arrangement in response to the image signal output by the X-ray imaging arrangement.
