The device is activated automatically by immersion in water to sound remote alarm. The safety device to be worn by bathers may consist of a bracelet (3) with a rectangular casing attached, or a wrist strap in two parts (12,21) to which a cylindrical unit is attached. The unit comprises a casing (13) housing a battery (15) and a base plate (24) with an internal waterproof sealed section. When the unit is immersed in water, a circuit is completed in order to activate a transistor circuit. This includes an amplifier and transmitter connected to an aerial to generate a remote warning sound.
