The ink jet head maintenance station has a cover (226a,b) to protect the print head, cleaning pins (252a,b) to clean the print head, and a suction coupling (238a,b) to draw ink up to the level of the print head when a new cartridge has been fitted. The cover, cleaners and aspiration are activated by a single common electric motor (234). The cover is displaced by the motor and is spring-loaded (230). The cleaner is a rake that moves transversely over the face of the print head.
