DIAGNOSIS, PREVENTION AND TREATMENT OF DIABETES

Agents capable of binding to the CD44 molecule expressed on various cells are shown to be involved in the onset of insulin-dependent diabetes (IDD). Injection of anti-CD44 monoclonal antibodies to animals is shown to block invasion of autoreactive T-cells into the pancreas and to delay or prevent the appearance of IDD in the treated animals.
