The invention relates to a pipe connector, comprising a socket element with an inner thread, and a spigot element with an outer thread which can be screwed together with said inner thread. One of the elements has a continuous, constant pitch, whilst the other has two sections extending from the ends of the threaded length, both of said sections being provided with a constant pitch. The other element (1) has more than two sections (27-30) with a pitch which is constant within the section (27-30) but is different to the pitch of the first-mentioned element (6, 7), the pitch difference of at least one section (27) being in the opposite direction to the other sections (28-30) in relation to the sign. The pitch difference of one section (29) is at least double in comparison with the adjacent sections (28, 30). The thread play and thread tolerances in the section with the greater pitch difference are compensated in the screwing position and the load flank of one corner tooth of this section (29) provides the base twisting force with the guiding flank of the other corner tooth, the two adjacent sections (28, 30) building up the thread twisting force with their load or guiding flanks until the required thread torque is reached.
