Inactivating spore-forming microorganisms

Spore-forming microorganisms are inactivated by inducing germination of the spores by application of high static or alternating pressure and inactivating the resulting vegetative cells by a second high pressure treatment. The pressure-induced germination is accomplished by application of static or alternating pressures of at least 50 MPa. The process is also referred to as 'High Pressure Tyndallisation'.
