The device has a piston (17) consisting of non-conducting ceramic runs along with the cylinder (2) which surrounds the valve consisting of metal or conducting ceramic in sealing fashion in the region of the shaft piece (19), an ERF chamber with the cylindrical electrode (4), a hole (5) surrounding the shaft piece in sealing fashion, an ERF supply with annular channel (6) and the an ERF outlet with annular channel (16) and ventilation (15). The control device for intake and exhaust valves of IC engines made of metal, non-conducting or conducting ceramic, plastic or a combination thereof for continuously variable changing of the valve stroke and for valve closing. The piston driven by the cam (19) against the pressure of a metal spring (8) is supported in the spring support (24) and has a centering ring insulator (21). An annular electrode (9) mounted in insulated fashion with respect to the engine housing and the annular electrode (7) is connected in electrically conducting fashion to a cylinder electrode (4). After application of the control voltage, the EDF picks up the valve shaft in positive locking fashion in the EDF-chamber. All processes are controlled by the central engine management system.
