A method and device for A process for removing oxide skin from cut surfaces of a thin-walled metal strip used for preparing wall material for welded pipes. The invention comprises passing the metal strip between pairs of rotating cutting tools and applying a low self-adjusting working pressure to the cut surfaces with the tools. During this process, the temperature of the metal strip is maintained below 80.degree.C to prevent the oxide skin from re-depositing.
