The panel illumination device has an electroluminescent plate (5) positioned so that its illuminating face (5I) faces the front of the instruments (4) mounted in the panel (2). Openings (7) are formed in the electroluminescent plate facing the front of the instruments, with each opening having the dimensions and form corresponding the instrument behind it. A facing (8) on the non-luminous outer face (5E) of the electroluminescent plate is also provided with openings (9) of dimensions and form corresponding to the instruments beneath. The electroluminescent plate is driven by an external electrical supply (6) delivering an alternating supply of some hundreds of volts at a frequency of tens or hundreds of Hertz. |
