At least the carriers (2) are housed within the case (3), and the fluid is purified by metabolic operation of the photosynthetic bacteria and/or Synecococcus adhered on the carriers (2) so that the fluid is sufficiently purified even when concentrations of nitrogen compounds, phosphorus compounds, metallic ions, organic substance or the like are low. <IMAGE>
