Door stay especially for vehicle doors

The door is fitted with a hydraulic control element between the door and the door frame. The control element permits a low force opening movement of the door, over a preset angle followed by a self-locking action to secure the open door in any open position. The locking action is possible over a second angle. The hydraulic element has a shunt duct operating over the free moving opening angle. The hydraulic chambers each end of the control element are each fitted with two control pistons which provide the locking action. Hydraulic pressure reservoirs complete the system. The door is held in any selected setting and is easily moved to a new setting.
