PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase resolution for image data which gives resolution priority, to output image data which gives gradation priority without increasing resolution and to perform high gradation recording by switching pulse width in accordance with the density of image data that is undergone smoothing processing and changing the resolution of the image data. SOLUTION: A character and a graphic form is detected from data of a bit map image that is inputted from an external device and is undergone smoothing processing, its pulse width is switched in accordance with the density of image data that is undergone the smoothing processing and the resolution of the image data is changed. In this device, a pattern matching circuit 102 performs pattern matching of a bit map image signal which is outputted by an external device 101 such as a personal computer. A smoothing circuit 103 performs smoothing processing space between corrugated patterns with double resolution. A PWM control circuit 104 switches resolution in accordance with a line number switching signal. |
