PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a machine translation device which generates a suitable translated sentence by canceling the polysemy of noun phrases included in a source sentence. SOLUTION: The source sentence is inputted to an input part 1, stored in a source sentence storage part 2 and inputted to a translation part 3. This translation part 3 generates the optimum tree structure of the source sentence through a grammar rule dictionary 4b by performing the morpheme analysis of the source sentence while using a word dictionary 4a at a translation dictionary part 4. The translation part 3 has a noun phrase analytic processing part and concerns the main noun of the noun phrase in the optimum tree structure and when it is noun from a verb derivatived, it is invertigated whether the corresponding verb requested term structure has successivety to the noun phrase or not. Further, using a term structure correspondence dictionary 4c, the semantie role of a phrase modifying the main noun is determined so as to perform the semantic analysis of the noun phrase. Based on this analysis, translation is executed, the result is stored in a translated sentence storage part 5 and the source sentence and the translated sentence are displayed on a display part 6. These source sentence and translated sentence are edited by editing control 7. |
