771,260. Batteries. PILES WONDER. Feb. 23, 1955 [March 2, 1954], No. 5482/55. Class 53. A battery has a number of superimposed flat cells each having a two-part insulating casing having top and bottom control apertures arranged to be closed by metal members. In the Figure each cell has a casing formed of a body 1 with an aperture 3, and a cover 7 with an aperture 9. The aperture 3 is covered by a metal disc 4 on which a carbon disc 5 is placed. The cover 7 carries the electrolyte 16 and a zinc disc 14, and the aperture 9 is closed by a metal terminal member 11. The walls 2 at the periphery of the case body 1 define an annular space serving as an expansion chamber to collect excess of electrolyte. |
