摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a magnetic recording medium in which a magnetic characteristics such as a noise characteristic, a coercive force or the like is enhanced by a method wherein a nonmagnetic substrate film, a magnetic film and a protective film are formed on a nonmagnetic substrate and the magnetic film has a structure in which many magnetic particles are composed of the same constituent element so as to be separated by a grain boundary layer whose thickness is a specific value or higher. SOLUTION: A Cr85 Ti15 alloy film in thickness of 200Åis formed on an NiP-plated Al substrate 21 so as to form a nonmagnetic substrate film 22. Co, Cr, Pt and Ta are sputtered sequentially and repeatedly onto it, and a magnetic film 23 is formed. In succession, a protective film 24 which is composed of carbon and whose thickness is 150Åis formed on the magnetic film 23. Ar is used as a sputtering gas in order to form the respective films. As a result, the average thickness of a grain boundary layer whose constituent element is identical to that of magnetic particles used to separate respective magnetic particles for the magnetic film 23 becomes 10Åor higher. In addition, when the concentration of Cr in the magnetic particles and that in the grain boundary layer are designated as C1 and C2 , C2 /C1 is set at 1.4 or higher, and C2 is set at 15 atomic % or higher. Thereby, it is possible to obtain a magnetic storage medium in which a coercive force is high and in which a noise characteristic is enhanced.
