PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To permit recording and reproducing with low noise and consequently at high C/N even in the absence of protective layers by having at least one layer of a recording layer capable of recording and reproducing information by using a laser beam on a tape base and incorporating an org. dyestuff, an org. oxidizing agent and a high-polymer compd. as a binder into the recording layer. SOLUTION: The org. oxidizing agent is a compd. of which the reduction potential a(V) is nobler than -0.6 V and is preferably in a range of -0.6<a<0.6. On the other hand, the oxidation potential b(V) of the org. dyestuff is preferably in a range of 0.5<b<1.2. Such org. oxidizing agent (e.g.: formula I) and the org. dyestuff (e.g.: formula II) are used by combining both in such a manner that the difference between the oxidation potential b(V) of the org. dyestuff and the reduction potential a(V) of the org. oxidizing agent satisfies the relation 0.5<b-a<1.4. As a result, the splashing of the crushed matter of the recording layer at the time of executing recording by irradiation with the laser beam is lessened. |
