PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device in which possiblity of electric shock incident occurrence due to contact with an active wire part at the time of the discharge lamps-exchanging work is suppressed low by providing a potential relation of a discharge lamp with an a.c. power source to be equal to a copper-iron type stabilizer. SOLUTION: While putting a filter circuit F between them, an inductor L1 and an a.c. power source AC are connected in series between a connection point of switching elements Q1 , Q2 and a connection point of diodes D1 , D2 . A load circuit Z is constituted of a parallel circuit of a discharge lamp La of HID (high intensity discharge) lamp and a capacitor C0 for smoothing output. One terminal y2 of the discharge lamp La and one pole of the a.c. electric power source AC are connected with a low impedance (approximately zeroΩ). Consequently, the pole in the earthing side of the a.c. power source AC and the terminal y2 of the discharge lamp La are at the same potential and the risk of electric shock incident occurrence at the time of installing a discharge lamp La in a socket of an appliance can remarkably lowered.
