The present invention provides novel DNA sequences and polypeptides, which are associated with breast, gynecological, and prostate carcinomas. The present invention also provides methods for detecting and treating breast, gynecological and prostate cancers. In a preferred embodiment, these methods utilize a monoclonal antibody developed against a synthetic peptide corresponding to a viral protein of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV-1). In a more preferred embodiment, the antibody is directed against the envelope protein gp120 (amino acid region 308-322). Regions of homology between HIV-1 and breast and gynecological cancer sequences are identified as are methods for diagnosis and treatment based on the conserved regions. |
