The present invention relates to the ignition systems of internal combustion engines and may be used for increasing the starting reliability of engines and for ensuring their operation without misfiring. This method comprises maintaining a stable and optimal electric resistance between the electrodes of the sparking plugs. To this end, an additional electrical current from an independent source is applied to the electrodes of the sparking plugs before starting the engine and, if need be, during the engine operation or on a permanent basis during the whole engine exploitation. The voltage of this current is not sufficient for generating a spark, but its power is sufficient for burning through the electro-conductive layer of contaminants shunting the spark gap. |
