The hydraulic press has the interior volume of the blank (13) regulated by a system incorporating detectors and a numerical controller. The press has a hydraulic regulator cylinder (28) in addition to the press cylinder (6). The first detector (52) measures the linear displacement of the press cylinder (6) and converting it to electrical signals. These signals are passed to the numerical controller (50) that drives the distribution valve (39) which controls the hydraulic regulator cylinder. The controller output is determined so it maintains a predetermined relationship between the instantaneous height of the blank and its instantaneous interior volume. The linear displacement of the hydraulic regulator cylinder (28) is measured by a second detector (53) and returned to the numeric controller.
