<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a harmful substance such as dioxin from being produced during operation and discharged into ambient air, in a scrap melting furnace provided with a preheating chamber. SOLUTION: This scrap melting furnace is constituted in such a way that, after leading exhaust gas from the melting furnace 1 into a preheating chamber 3 containing scrap metal 8 to preheat it with waste heat of this exhaust gas, the melting furnace 1 is charged with the preheated scrap metal 8 to be melted. In this scrap melting furnace, the preheating chamber 3 is charged in advance with a neutralizing material such as slaked lime and/or an adsorbing material such as activated carbon and activated coke, together with the scrap metal 8, thereby neutralizing and/or adsorbing an acid gas evolved from the scrap metal 8 at the time of preheating.</p> |
