Mixer for mixing powders with a liquid(s)(viscous liquid, gel, etc), deagglomerating the powder while deaerating by rotating the mixture in a cylindrical body to form a cylindrical "eye" at the free rotating surface connected to a vent, with the eye diameter determined by static mechanical means. This allows inlet flows to be controlled rather than outlet flows, for making abrasive slurries TheL cylindrical body (3) has upper (20) and lower (30) walls to form a central "eye"defined by a free rotating surface (5). The eye is connected to a vent under atmospheric or other pressure and its diameter is determined by static mechanical means such as an overflow. The overflow opens in the top part of the mixer and has a circular edge defining in its centre the bell or top of the chamber to form the vent. Paddles are rotated to rotate the mixture, with powder and/or liquid entering through inlets. The overflow can accept the outflow, eventually under pressure, and the surface of the eye is at a suitable distance from the top of the body and from the overflow. The overflow is tangential, with a square or rectangular section. The mixer can contain several chambers as described above, with the mixture passing successively one to another. The inlet is through a series of tubes at an angle alpha to the axis of rotation of the paddles, and there is at least one recirculation circuit which contains means of measuring at least one property of the mixture.
