PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an iron work with rustproof power without coating the work. SOLUTION: This method comprises subjecting an iron work contg. silicon(Si) to annealing treatment in air at 700 to 800 deg.C to form oxide scale having a 20 to 70μm thickness on the surface of the iron work. At this time, silicon(Si) contained in the iron base material in the surface of the iron work is allowed to migrate to the interface on the oxide scale side in contact with the iron base material to enrich the oxide scale with silicon(Si), and accordingly, the silicon in the oxide scale is combined with the surrounding iron oxide (FeO) to form a dense fayalite-type oxide (FeSiO). Thus, the oxide scale is strongly joined to the iron base material through the fayalite-type oxide (FeSiO).
