PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress generation of wear at a contact part of a locker arm and the upper end surface of a valve, and improve durability. SOLUTION: In a valve system for an internal combustion engine, a contact part of a locker arm 1 and the upper end surface of a valve 3 is subjected to rolling sliding contact or rolling contact so as to make sliding contact minimum. The contact surface of the locker arm 1 is formed to be a convexly curved surface having a prescribed curvature. When the valve 3 is opened and shut, a contact part between the contact surface and the contact part of the upper end surface of the valve is constituted to be offset above a plane 30 parallel to a plane 50 which passes through the rotating center 01 so that an angleθformed by a line 40 connecting a rotating center 01 of a supporting part of the locker arm 1 and a center 02 of the curvature of the contact surface is set greater than zero.
