PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tritium sampler making it possible to use its refrigerating machine to the limit of life with very little possibility of causing a period of disabled sampling. SOLUTION: Two set-up periods Ts1 and Ts2 are provided in a pre-cooling period of time, and whether or not an intermediate coolant temperature has reached a predetermined value, -60 deg.C, is checked when the Ts1 has passed after the pre-cooling started, and, if not, a pre-alarm for replacing a refrigerating machine is issued for causing preparation of the replacement. Similar checking is performed when the Ts2 has passed, and, if not, the refrigerating machine is stopped at once and replaced with another. Ts1≈3Tc(0), Ts2≈10Tc(0), where Tc(0) is a period required for cooling to the predetermined temperature in the early stage of use of a refrigerating machine.
