PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject dispersion excellent in the stability of dispersion of wax particles and capable of reducing environmental pollution, etc., by compounding only a specific wax and a basic additive, and adjusting its average particle size into a specific range. SOLUTION: This dispersion comprises only (A) a wax consisting of one or more kinds of compounds selected from higher fatty acids and their derivatives, higher alcohols and their derivatives, and higher hydrocarbons, preferably one or more kinds of compounds of the formula: R1 X1 R2 or the formula: R3 X2 R4 (X3 R5 )n [R1 to R3 and R5 are each a 10-70C hydrocarbon; R4 is a 10-50C hydrocarbon having tow or more valent; X1 to X3 are each COO, OCO or the like; (n) is an integer of >=1] and (B) a basic additive (preferably, a volatile organic compound), and has an average particle diameter of less than 0.20μm. A silver halide photosensitive material having a layer containing said dispersion is excellent in production stability and capable of reducing environmental pollution, enables the reduction of the capital investment for countermeasure against taking-fire, for explosion-protection, for recovery of organic solvents, etc., and has improved scratch resistance.
