PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the intake system of an internal combustion engine which is suitable for saving space and whose air cleaner and fuel injection unit are easily mounted. SOLUTION: An air cleaner part 10 includes an air cleaner cap 14 having an intake port 12 and an air cleaner case body 16 constituting a part of a housing 70 integrally formed with an intake manifold 20 and a surge tank 40. The air cleaner cap 14 is shaped nearly like a rectangular parallelepiped and an opening in each of two neighboring planes and one of the openings is provided with a frame 17. An air cleaner element 18 is fitted in and fixed to the frame 17. The cleaner part 10 is assembled by mounting the air cleaner cap 14 with the air cleaner element 18 on the air cleaner case body 16.
