DETECTION OF MOLTEN STEEL SLAG

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the slag flowed out from the steel tapping hole in a converter with good accuracy by using a magnetic type slag detector. SOLUTION: The detecting method of the converter slag is executed by arranging a transmitting coil forming the magnetic field in the steel tapping hole of the converter and a receiving coil generating electromotive force with this magnetic field. The electromotive force value generated in the receiving coil before tapping the molten steel in the converter from the steel tapping hole is taken as a first reference value and further, the electromotive force value generated in the receiving coil at the time of passing the molten metal through the steel tapping hole after starting the steel tapping is taken as a second reference value. A threshold value is obtd. based on the difference between the first reference value and the second reference value and the flow out of the slag is detected when the electromotive force generated with the receiving coil exceeds this threshold value. In such a way, the threshold value is adjusted according to the carbon content in the molten steel during steel tapping.
