PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for accurately detecting the adhesion position and the level of carbon adhered to the oven wall of a coke oven carbonizing chamber. SOLUTION: When the oven wall temperature distribution of a coke oven carbonizing chamber is to be determined by the use of a radiation thermometer A set up on a ram head, a monochromatic radiation thermometer a1 and a dichromatic radiation thermometer a2 are simultaneously used as the above thermometer A to measure temperatures T1 and T2 , respectively, and based on this temperature differenceδ, deltaΔT, the adhesion position and the level of carbon adhered to the oven wall are estimated.
