The indicator consists of a light (12) on the outside of a mountain coat, connected to a transmitter/receiver (14) inside the garment, designed to go out in the event of battery or transmitter/receiver failure. The light is in the form of an electroluminescent diode (24) powered by the batteries of the transmitter/receiver, mounted on a support (30) on the outside of the garment and connected by a wire (28) passing through the garment to a connector (42) on the inside. The support is in the form of a plastic ring sewn to a flap (16) on the outer surface of the garment and a second ring (36) in an inner pocket (32) which can be used to hold the wire and connector when they are not in use. The warning light can also be equipped with a sound indicator.
