The skate wheel is made with a tread (26) of an adhesive supple material and has a rigid reinforcing element (24) with one face (28) in contact with the tread's inner surface. The reinforcing element covers a substantial portion of the wheel's width opposite the thicker middle region of the tread, and a shock absorbing layer (22) is incorporated between the reinforcing element and the wheel hub (10). The tread is 2 - 5 mm thick, and can be made from rubber or a polymer, and produced by injection, gravity flow or vulcanization. The reinforcing element can be made from any material which is harder than the tread, e.g. of metal or a composition material, and the shock absorbing layer can be made from a polymer. The wheel hub can be made from a variety of materials, e.g. aluminum or a polymer, or a magnesium-titanium alloy, made by molding, injection, gravity flow, extrusion or stamping, forging or pressing in one piece or in a number of pieces joined by machining, crimping or adhesion.
