The mechanism is used to produce small movements and in one application controls the position of a valve poppet (13) relative to a port . The valve rod (12) is connected to a spring element (S) that has two positions . A linkage is connected to one end of the spring and this has a memory element (2) that has two stable positions and allows the poppet to move between open and closed.
