PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a material-testing machine whose load control system and displacement control system are directly and smoothly switched without giving a shock to a specimen. SOLUTION: This material testing machine comprises a load control system 12 to control the operation of a hydraulic servo system while using the practical load applied to a specimen as a control degree, a displacement control system 13 to control the operation of a hydraulic servo system while using the practical displacement caused in the specimen as a control degree, and a control system switching means 14 to alternatively operate the load control system and the displacement control system and the control systems are switched by initially setting the integrated valueΣH (ΣK) of the deviation in one control system after switching based on the control output value UK (UH) supplied to the hydraulic servo system from other control system immediate before the switching of the control systems and absorbing the difference between the control gains of respective control systems and making the control output values UK, UH of respective control systems equal before and after the switching.
